For Joey Torres, resilience has become the foundation of both his life and his mission.
As the founder of Life First Group (L1G), a faith-based gym and fitness community in Riverside, California, Torres has dedicated his life to helping people become stronger physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. What began as a passion for fitness has evolved into a much greater purpose: creating a community where people can find hope, accountability, healing, and a deeper relationship with God.
But the road to that mission has been anything but easy.
Like many entrepreneurs, Torres has experienced seasons of remarkable success. At one point, his businesses generated substantial monthly revenue, allowing him to build the life he had envisioned. He invested heavily in real estate, business ventures, and creating a future for himself and those he loved.
Then everything changed.
Business challenges mounted. A real estate investment unraveled, bringing significant financial setbacks. Financial pressure replaced financial freedom, and dreams that once seemed secure suddenly became uncertain.
For many people, those setbacks would have marked the end of the story.
For Torres, they became the beginning of a different one.
"One of the hardest lessons I've learned is that faith doesn't guarantee an easy life," Torres says. "It gives you the strength to keep moving when life isn't easy."
That conviction has become the driving force behind everything he does.
Life First Group was never designed to be just another gym. While members come to improve their health and fitness, they quickly discover something much deeper. Every membership includes accountability, encouragement, customized nutrition guidance, and access to a community built on faith and genuine relationships. Bible studies, mentorship, and personal growth are woven into the culture because Torres believes lasting transformation begins on the inside.
That same commitment to serving people extends beyond fitness.
Torres is also the founder of L1G Protection, an award-winning security and executive protection company recognized as Best Security Company in Riverside. While fitness and executive protection may appear to be completely different industries, Torres views them through the same lens.
"Whether I'm protecting a client, coaching someone in the gym, mentoring a young man, or writing music, it's all about serving people. My mission has never changed. The platform is what changes."
His passion for helping others also led him to establish Truth Circle Ministries, an organization committed to sharing the Gospel and creating environments where people can experience authentic discipleship, community, and hope. Through Bible studies, outreach events, leadership development, and future ministry initiatives, Torres continues to invest in people's spiritual lives just as intentionally as he invests in their physical well-being.
Music has become another extension of that calling.
Performing under the name Flawless Torres, he creates music rooted in faith while honestly addressing subjects many people are afraid to talk about, including mental health, failure, redemption, purpose, grief, and perseverance. Rather than presenting a polished version of life, his music reflects the reality that even people of faith experience hardship, doubt, and brokenness.
That authenticity comes from personal experience.
Like many people entering the second half of life, Torres has faced disappointment, financial hardship, personal loss, and seasons that tested everything he believed. Those experiences have given him a deeper compassion for people who feel forgotten, overwhelmed, or convinced their best days are behind them.
"I've learned that your greatest setbacks don't have to become your identity," he says. "Sometimes God allows us to walk through difficult seasons so we can genuinely understand the people we're called to help."
That perspective has reshaped his definition of success.
Today, Torres is less concerned with titles, recognition, or financial achievement than he is with lasting impact. Whether someone walks into Life First Group searching for better health, hires L1G Protection for peace of mind, attends a Bible study, or hears one of his songs for the first time, his goal is the same: to leave that person stronger than when they arrived.
Looking ahead, his vision continues to grow.
Through Life First Group, he hopes to expand a model where faith and fitness work together to transform lives. Through Truth Circle Ministries, he is building a Christ-centered community that reaches beyond church walls. Through L1G Protection, he remains committed to protecting people with professionalism and integrity. Through music, he hopes to encourage listeners who may be silently fighting battles of their own.
Every endeavor serves one mission.

To help people become the person God created them to be.
